R905.2.7 Underlayment application. 


For roof slopes from two units vertical in 12 units horizontal (17-percent slope), 

up to four units vertical in 12 units horizontal (33-percent slope), 

underlayment shall be two layers applied in the following manner. 

Apply a 19-inch (483 mm) strip of underlayment felt parallel to and 

starting at the eaves, fastened sufficiently to hold in place. 

Starting at the eave, apply 36-inch-wide (914 mm) sheets of underlayment, 

overlapping successive sheets 19 inches (483 mm), and fastened sufficiently to hold in place. 

Distortions in the underlayment shall not interfere with the ability of the shingles to seal. 


For roof slopes of four units vertical in 12 units horizontal (33-percent slope) 

or greater, underlayment shall be one layer applied in the following manner. 

Underlayment shall be applied shingle fashion, parallel to and starting from the eave 

and lapped 2 inches (51 mm), fastened sufficiently to hold in place. 

Distortions in the underlayment shall not interfere with the ability of the shingles 

to seal. 


End laps shall be offset by 6 feet (1829 mm).


2/12 ~ 4/12의 경사를 지닌 지붕의 경우 2겹의 Underlayment가 아래 방법으로 적용되어야 한다.

19인치(483mm) 펠트지를 처마 끝부터 처마와 평행하게 깔고 잘 고정한다.

그위에 36인치(914mm) 펠트지를 깔아준다.


4/12각 이상일경우 한겹으로 시공하며 Overlap은 2인치(51mm)이며 

마지막 장은 6피트(1.829m)로 끝낸다.


R905.2.7.1 Ice Barrier:

In areas where the average daily temperature in January is -4 or less,

an ice barrier that consists of a least two layers of underlayment cemented together

or of a self-adhering polymer modified bitumen sheet, shall be used in lieu of normal

underlayment and extend from the lowest edges of all roof surfaces to a point at least

24 inches(610 mm) inside the exterior wall line of the building.


Exception : Detached accesory structures that contain no conditioned floor area.


1월의 일 평균기온이 영하 4도이하인 지역은

두겹의 펠트지로 외벽부터 건물 안쪽으로 24인치되는 지점까지 덮는 Ice Barrier를 만들어준다.


예외 : 냉난방이 되지 않는 부속건물은 예외로 함


참고 : 지붕경사각

1:12 = 4.76도

2:12 = 9.46도

4:12 = 18.43도

6:12 = 26.57도

7:12 = 30.26도
